Fourth-Inning Spurt Lead Champlain Mariners Past Vermont Black Sox

Champlain Mariners defeated Vermont Black Sox 13-5 on Sunday at 1000 Dorset St, South Burlington, VT 05403 thanks in part to seven runs in the fourth inning. Tanguay singled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Poland doubled, scoring two runs, Steele singled, scoring one run, and Tanguay drew a walk, scoring one run.

Champlain Mariners jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Mikell singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.

Champlain Mariners added one run in the second after Tanguay grounded out.

Champlain Mariners added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Poland grounded into a fielder's choice, and Tanis singled to right field, each scoring one run.

Picard hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the fourth for the Vermont Black Sox.

Goodrich earned the win for Champlain Mariners. The starting pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out five and walking one. Canty took the loss for Vermont Black Sox. The starter went three and one-third innings, surrendering 13 runs (three earned) on 11 hits, striking out two and walking three. Quinn collected the save. Richburg appeared in relief for Champlain Mariners.

Champlain Mariners amassed 12 hits in the game. Mikell went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Champlain Mariners in hits. Tanguay and Poland each drove in three runs for Champlain Mariners.
